Again
I’m sick again. This is the fourth time since I started this job. Statistically, I’ve been getting sick once a month. This time I could really feel my body resenting the quantity and frequency of my illnesses as it has felt very weak. Unlike the other times, this time I’ve had fever and body aches that have lasted all day long, along with nausea.
I tried to go see my doctor, but he did not have appointments available. The same was true at urgent care. So, I was "treated" over the phone by a PA. After asking about my symptoms, he diagnosed me with the flu and instructed me to rest and drink plenty of fluids. He also faxed a note to the office to justify my absences at work for two days. Talk about efficiency and about losing that human touch. I suppose that’s what modern healthcare is about. At least I didn’t have to pay the co-payment.
Living alone, it has required huge effort on my part to take care of my animals, cook and clean while being sick. There has not been a day since Wednesday when I didn’t wish I had someone to help with these tasks. The bad weather didn’t help either. But, thank God, today seems to be a much better day with me feeling better and with a nice sunny and warmer day ahead.
